My Website Traffic Isn’t Growing. What Can I Do?

Website traffic is essential to your growth as a business. When you get lots of online traffic, you have more opportunities to build relationships, create meaningful experiences and increase sales. But what happens when you’re not getting enough traffic to make these things happen? Unfortunately, this is a reality for many businesses, especially with frequent algorithm changes and high competition.

If you’re struggling to bring in website traffic, there are things you can do. But first, you’ll need to identify the reasons why you’re not getting the traffic you need so that you fix these issues and focus on the right areas. Below are a few reasons why your web traffic may not be growing and how to fix them.

Problem: You’re Not Using Google Analytics

Solution: Download and Use the Latest Version of Analytics

Google Analytics is an excellent tool for website tracking and search engine optimization. In order to bring in more relevant traffic, you need to know which metrics to track and what these numbers mean. If you feel that you’re not using Analytics to your full advantage, consider taking an Analytic Academy Course. These online courses are free.

It’s also important to make sure you’re using the latest version of Google Analytics. The latest updates always include new features, better predictions and improved insights. As an example, the newest version of Analytics automatically calculates and alerts you of trends in your data.

Bottom line: Make sure you’re using all of the capabilities in Google Analytics. This is the best way to ensure you’re driving the right traffic to your website.

Problem: Your Website isn’t Secure

Solution: Use Cloud Computing and Upgrade to HTTPS

Another issue that might interfere with your web traffic is a problem with your security. When your website is compromised in any way, Google will ping your site and tell potential visitors to stay away. Obviously, no one wants to risk having their information compromised, so you’ll definitely lose plenty of visitors this way.

If your site is vulnerable, consider cloud computing – it’s safer, it’s scalable and it takes pressure off your IT team. When looking into added protection, also make sure that your site has the latest SSL certification. Going from HTTP to HTTPS gives your site an extra layer of security.

Problem: You’re Lacking a Good Mobile Experience

Solution: Invest in a Mobile Optimized Website

Mobile users aren’t very patient. They want their information now, so you won’t win anyone over if it takes time for your pages to load. Not only are speed times important but so is the customer experience. If your site is frustrating to use, people will abandon it and they probably won’t return.

If you’re not getting sufficient web traffic, it may be time to update your site for mobile. Run your website through Google’s Mobile Friendly Test to see how your pages are performing and what issues you need to address. Businesses need to remember that they need different sites for mobile – not just a smaller version of their desktop site.

These are just a few of the reasons why you might be lacking traffic to your website. However, there are many other issues that could be standing in your way of success. For a full assessment of your website, contact WSI Internet Partners today.
